Global Running Day

Recently, tons of people have turned to running as a means to alleviate the excess stress and anxiety they may be experiencing. Especially given the current circumstances, I can't think of a better time for us to come together to celebrate Global Running Day.

Although Global Running Day will look much different this year, there are still plenty of ways to connect with runners around the world. One way, in particular, is to participate in the Global 24-Hour Relay

For Global Running Day on Wednesday, June 3, teams participating in the relay will join together with one common goal. Run from midnight to midnight, a full 24 hours.

How Does it Work?

There are teams all over the country organized by city and each team is comprised of 48 members. When you register for a team, each runner selects a specific 30-minute block that you'd like to be responsible for during the event.

On Global Running Day, you'll receive a message when the runner before you is ready to hand off the virtual "baton." Then it's your turn, run or walk your 30-minute block anywhere you choose. Once your time is up, you'll notify the next runner on your team. It's that simple!

How Do I Sign Up?

There are already a bunch of teams created on https://www.global24hourrelay.com/ so signing up is as easy as choosing the team you'd like to participate with. Feel free to choose from any of the cities listed, just remember, the time slots available are based on the time zone of THAT city. If you'd like to start a new team, there's also an option to do so at the bottom of the team page.

What Do I Get?

If the satisfaction of completing this Global Running Day challenge isn't enough to entice you to register, fear not! Each runner will also earn themselves a race medal and shirt for participating in the relay. Every runner will also be entered into several giveaways provided by the event sponsors.

Final Thoughts

I think it's easy to feel isolated right now so it's important to celebrate the things that connect us with so many others around the world. Global Running Day may look different this year, but it's more important than ever to celebrate this thing we all love.

I'll be running with Team New York City and there are still plenty of slots available! Registration is $30 with some of the pre-dawn options being offered at a bit of a discount. I hope to see you out there!

Cheers!
